Aerodigestive collaborative

As a team, we coordinate and improve care for kids with complex aerodigestive problems – those conditions impacting both the respiratory and digestive systems. The aerodigestive collaborative is a team of CHoR specialists who meet monthly to consult, develop treatment plans, and coordinate referrals, procedures and follow-up. The group of approximately 20 providers includes specialists from:

  • Otolaryngology
  • Pulmonary medicine
  • Surgery
  • Gastroenterology
  • Neurology
  • Radiology
  • Physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Speech/language pathology
  • Feeding program

Procedures performed by otolaryngology, pulmonary medicine and gastroenterology are often needed to fully evaluate disorders affecting the airway and digestive tract. Our team’s goal is to coordinate procedures so a child only undergoes anesthesia once.

The team provides comprehensive management for children with diseases/disorders including:

  • Achalasia
  • Airway obstruction
  • Aphonia
  • Bronchomalacia
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Caustic ingestion with stricture
  • Chronic aspiration
  • Colon interposition
  • Dysphagia (problems feeding and swallowing)
  • Esophageal atresia
  • Esophageal web or stricture
  • Gastroesophageal reflux (GER)
  • Glottic stenosis
  • Hypoplastic lung
  • Hypoventilation
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Laryngeal atresia, cleft and web
  • Laryngomalacia
  • Sleep disorders
  • Subglottic stenosis
  • Tracheal stenosis
  • Tracheoesophageal fistula
  • Tracheomalacia
  • Vocal cord paralysis
